3D Printed Map

I’m fascinated by 3D Printing some folks have printed whole buildings, cars and of course fabrics.  Today I came across a 3D printed map of London. Using LIDAR data Andrew Godwin, a San Francisco based programmer was able to print 48 individual tiles all pieced together in a few hours using the Rostock Max v2 3D printer a complete kit will set you back $999. BTW He used PLA material instead of ABS (what’s the difference).

He’s not the first person to have done this of course there are a number of 3D printed maps out there including this one  also a map of London but with some colors.

We’re starting to look at using our LIDAR data to produce 3D web scenes with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online would be nice to have the ability to send to a 3D printer.
